How Clinics Are Selected

Clinics listed on The Aesthetic Standard are manually reviewed before being featured. Every clinic is assessed against the same criteria for practitioner credentials, clinical safety standards and patient care.

Statutory registration — the most important check:

Every practitioner performing advanced aesthetic treatments should hold current registration with their relevant statutory body. For doctor-led clinics we check General Medical Council (GMC) registration. For dentist-led clinics we check General Dental Council (GDC) registration. For nurse-led clinics we check Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration. These are mandatory — no practitioner should be performing advanced aesthetic treatments without current statutory registration.

Professional membership bodies:

We consider membership of the British College of Aesthetic Medicine (BCAM) for doctor and dentist-led clinics, and the British Association of Medical Aesthetic Nurses (BAMAN) for nurse-led clinics. These are the leading professional bodies for their respective disciplines in aesthetic medicine.

CQC registration:

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is the independent government regulator of health and social care in England. CQC registration is not currently mandatory for cosmetic laser clinics, but where a clinic voluntarily holds CQC registration this demonstrates an exceptionally high level of clinical governance, patient safety commitment and operational compliance.

Voluntary registers:

We also look for accreditation with Save Face — the UK’s only government-approved aesthetics register for doctors, nurses, dentists and pharmacists — and the Joint Council for Cosmetic Practitioners (JCCP), a PSA-accredited voluntary register covering all healthcare professionals practising aesthetics.
